National Day of Community Health Workers:
On 21 May 2009, Ministry of Public Health Of Afghanistan together with World Health Organization, USAD and UNFPA celebrated the first National Day of Community Health Workers.
The Deputy Minister of MoPH, Dr. Faizullah Kakar said “CHWs are the front line of health services and they are the real face of ministry and health centers. With their ability of being in close contact with community, each house in village, they are the messengers of good health and well being to population.”
Based on AIDE MEDICALE INTERNAITNLE (AMI) 20,000 CHW are working in Afghanistan that half of them are women and planed to further train 20,000 more CHW. more |

UNFPA's Approaches in Reduction of Maternal Mortality and Morbidity in Afghanistan:
The current approach of UNFPA in Afghanistan is to provide an integrated and comprehensive package of development assistance that would contribute to increased capacity of the Government and civil society organisations to deliver effective reproductive health services, with special focus on those living in remote and marginal areas. Apart from policy level advocacy, UNFPA is piloting a culturally adapted community centred approach to maternal mortality reduction in more than 20 districts spread across five provinces. more.

UNDAF 2010-2013:
The working groups continued developing UNDAF 2010-2013. The UNDAF focuses on 3 areas of: 1) Good Governance, Peace and stability, 2) Sustainable livelihoods: Agriculture, food security and income opportunities, 3) Basic Social services: education , Health, Water and sanitation. The draft outcomes, outputs, indicators, targets with baseline indicators presented to UNCT for review. Cross cutting issues of UNDAF are: capacity building, gender equity, counter narcotics, regional cooperation, anti corruption, environment. more.
