The Central Statistics Organization (CSO) celebrates the publication of the Socio-Demographic and Economic Survey (SDES) for Herat.
The Socio-Demographic and Economic Survey is the largest survey ever conducted in Afghanistan. The survey reflects a module similar to a census to fill the socio-demographic and economic data gap in the country. In the light of the insecurity in the country and as funds become available, the SDES is conducted province by province.
Since 2011, UNFPA has been supporting the Central Statistics Organization (CSO) technically to conduct the provincial-level SDES. The survey first began in Bamiyan province in 2011, followed by Ghor and Daikundi in 2012. Since then the survey has covered Kabul, Parwan, Kapisa, Samangan, Takhar, Balkh, Herat and Nimroz.
