The new UNFPA Afghanistan Country Representative, Mr. Koffi Kouame, officially assumed his duties at the UNFPA Afghanistan Country Office after presenting his Letter of Credence to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, represented by the Deputy Minister Mr. Idrees Zaman.

During their meeting, the two sides discussed efforts to strengthen collaboration between the government and UNFPA in Afghanistan.

“Our goal is to have an Afghanistan where every pregnancy is wanted; every child birth is safe; where there is no gender-based violence and where the potential of every young person is fulfilled,” said Mr. Koffi Kouame.

In welcoming the Country Representative, Mr. Zaman commended the work of UNFPA: “We have seen how the wonderful work of UNFPA Afghanistan has helped save lives. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will always be there to support and facilitate the work of UNFPA as a partner.”
