"The survey being inaugurated today for Kabul province after Bamiyan, Ghor and Daikundi is an important step towards gathering invaluable data about Afghan households and population. CSO will collect reliable data from the field which will feed into the development of policies and programs. Policy makers, program designers and donors will have accurate data in hand for the basis of their work for a stable and prosperous Afghanistan." Said Dr. Laurent Zessler, UNFPA Representative.
Kabul Afghanistan, June 26, 2013 (05/04/1992)
President General of Central Statistics Organization (CSO), governor, directors and members of Kabul provincial councils, representatives from other government entities, representative of United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and representatives from international organizations, donors, and journalists were present at the launching event.
SDES is being carried out by CSO with technical support of UNFPA. Preliminary tasks are currently being undertaken to prepare the ground for the survey.
The result of this survey will provide accurate data on the number of households, age and sex distribution of the population, access to safe drinking water, education and literacy status, school enrolment, employment status of the people, birth and child mortality. This data can be used for social and economic development planning of the different districts covered by the survey.
After the recitation of the Holy Quran, Mr. Ghafoori, President General of CSO, in addition to the work of people responsible for the survey, talked about the need for the survey and its importance in economic development of the country and the welfare of people. Mr. Ghafoori requested all organizations involved in this undertaking and the people of Kabul to help and make the survey a successful process. Mr. Ghafoori emphasized that "The success of the survey will help improve the welfare of the people through effective plans, programs, and projects that will be developed or created based on the data that will be derived from the survey"

The actual survey will commence in Kabul in near future. Some 4,000 CSO employees, including cartographers, controllers, monitors and surveyors will work for the survey. These people will be hired from the areas being surveyed.
CSO with technical support of UNFPA will conduct the survey meeting international standards. At the end of the survey, data will be reviewed, analyzed, coded, recorded in computers and summarized before disseminating. Given the availability of funds, this survey will roll out to other provinces throughout the country.
As the only independent, impartial and responsible entity in Afghanistan for data collection, CSO requests all residents of Kabul to actively participate in the survey by providing true, accurate and well-thought answers to the surveyors. By taking part in the survey they will be able to fulfill their individual and national duty as citizens of Afghanistan. The effective implementation of the survey will be possible only if the people of Kabul will actively participate.
