One of the key transformative results of UNFPA is “zero preventable maternal deaths” and to achieve this result, UNFPA has established Family Health Houses (FHHs), community based health facilities in the hard to reach areas of Afghanistan. The FHHs offer free, round-the-clock services before, during and after pregnancy, including provision of basic yet essential care for children under 5-years-old, and family planning information and tools. In 2020, the FHHs played key role in awareness raising of COVID-19 prevention practices, and refer suspected cases to the nearest capable public health facilities. Family Health Houses is one of the key reproductive health interventions of UNFPA Afghanistan, this advocacy documents highlights the importance, functionality, and operations of the FHH. It also gives a grasp of understanding the further need of supporting such interventions in Afghanistan.
